Christmas for the kids on Samos Island!

A small group of people on Samos island every year organize a Christmas Village in Samos Town and a variety of Christmas happenings in order to bring smile in children's faces.

The organizers have started a crowdfunding campaign which will last until December 20.

Let's see how they describe their own effort to gather money for the Christmas Village and Christmas happenings:

"As you probably know the last 5 years Greece is on a huge crisis that made many people sad and pessimistic about the future. Unfortunately this year, despite the economic problems, we had to cope with a big wave of war refugees from Syria  and illegal immigrants from other countries that still keep coming every day in large numbers.

Of course the Samians with the limited resources they have, do their best to help these people. We believe that all the people have the right during the holy days of Christmas to feel some joy and peace in their hearts and stop thinking about the problems of everyday life for a while.

Our children together with the children of the refugees can enjoy this festival!

Organizing these Christmas celebrations of course cost money and despite many people do it voluntarily some services are very expensive for us (such us a small carousel, ice skate, sound equipment rent, fireworks, candies etc). We calculate the cost of the celebration between 10.000 and 12.000 euros. Anything above this goal will be used to buy food and clothes for poor families and the refugees.

What We Need & What You Get

Everybody who knows and organize events can understand how much they cost. For example, a very small 3 minute firework show is about 1.000 euro. A live concert about 2.000 to 3.000. Renting a small carousel around 10.000. We try to keep it real in those difficult times and believe us the prices above are for basic events.

To be honest,if we reach our goal wich is about 12.000 euro rest of the money will be given to poor families of samos and helping the refugees and immigrants.

All donations  above 50 euro will get a postcard from Samos island. From 100 to 250 will receive a handmade soap along with the postcard. 250 to 500 Euro will receive an island gift pack (Samian herbs and spices along with the soap and the postcard).

The Impact

As we said before Samos, the birthplace of famous Pythagoras, is a small island of the Aegean sea in the boarderline between Greece and Turkey, relatively far from Greek mainland.

This means many problems right now (ecomomic crisis, refugees and immigrants passing the borders on their way to Europe etc).

Every christmas we organize this celebration that turns our capital (Samos Town or Vathy) for 15 days into a Christmas village with different events and attractions such as Concerts, Ice skate, Carousel, Fireworks, DJs, Dancing, Treasure hunt around the city and many others.

All these are very important for us to keep the people smiling and face the challenges of everyday life.

This year is the fourth and we hope to be the best!

Unfortunatelly we don't have any help, except our vision and volunteer work we all do as a group.
