A great music festival in Pythagorion, Samos from 7 to 13 August

Samos Young Artists Festival will be held, for the 10th consecutive year, in the ancient theater of Pythagorion, Samos from August 7 to August 13, 2019.

A message from the artistic directors of the festival:

The Schwarz Foundation is happy to invite you to the 10th Samos Young Artists Festival.

From August 7th until August 13th, internationally renowned artists and young rising stars from Germany, Greece, Georgia, France, Turkey, the U.S., Russia, and China meet on the Aegean island to perform seven open-air concerts in the Ancient Theatre of Pythagorion.

Alongside the artists, the audience is invited to be inspired by the lightness of the Greek summer, the historical significance of the location, and the beauty of the music.

The Festival's artistic directors, the pianist Masha Ilyashov and the cellist Alexis Karaiskakis-Nastos created this year's programme as a musical journey bridging cultural and national divides. The repertoire ranges from 18th- and 19th-century European classics through to Italian Baroque music, contemporary-music creations to traditional sounds of the Mediterranean.

The concerts take place daily from August 7 – 13, at 8:30 p.m. in the antique open-air theater of Pythagorion on the Greek island of Samos. Admission tickets can be purchased at the box office for € 5.

The theater was constructed in the fourth century B.C. and is located on a hillside at the foot of Mount Kastri, near the Panagia Spiliani monastery. It looks out over the harbor city of Pythagorion – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and the sea. Today, the theater has 1000 seats.

When traveling on the main road to Vathy (Samos Town), turn left towards the Efpalinon Tunnel just before leaving town. The theater is within 20 minutes walking distance of Pythagorion. Due to the traffic situation, those who drive are recommended to arrive early.
